Public invited to prayer service during National Catholic Sisters Week

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania invite the public to attend a special prayer service on Sunday, March 12, 2017 during National Catholic Sisters Week.  The Prayer Service will take place from 3:00 – 3:45 p.m. at the Sisters’ Community Living Center, 5031 West Ridge Road, Erie.

This year, the Sisters of St. Joseph, the Benedictine Sisters of Erie and the Mercy Sisters of Erie, along with many other congregations throughout the United States, will celebrate National Catholic Sisters Week with the launch of a special campaign to promote and encourage kind actions.  KINDNESS: Get in the Habit will be supported locally with billboards and television PSAs to help get the message to the community.  In addition, the Sisters of St. Joseph are introducing “kindness cards” which are small cards given to anyone you see doing an act of kindness.

“If we acknowledge and reinforce kindness when we see it, we believe it will foster more kind acts,” said Mary Herrmann, SSJ. “We encourage everyone to use the kindness cards to acknowledge and increase kindness in our community.”  The kindness cards can be downloaded and printed from the Sisters of St. Joseph website www.ssjerie.org.

National Catholic Sisters Week takes place each year from March 8-14, during Women’s History Month, to celebrate the contributions of Catholic Sisters throughout the United States.  National Catholic Sisters Week began in 2014 supported by a grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.
