Letting Go of Saint Vincent

To be effective and sustainable, the Sisters of St. Joseph announced the affiliation of Saint Vincent Health System with AHN/Highmark. Most Catholic hospitals nationwide have had to join forces with other providers to build larger, healthier systems. In many cases, this has involved detaching from their founding Congregations, and the time had come for Saint Vincent Hospital to do the same. The Sisters of St. Joseph stepped away from its leadership and sponsorship roles with Saint Vincent. We are pleased to leave our healthcare ministry in the capable hands of the Highmark and Saint Vincent boards and leadership teams. Saint Vincent was the last independent Catholic hospital in Pennsylvania.
