Biography

Home Parish: Holy Rosary, Johnsonburg, PA

Sister Angela Marie first felt a call to religious life when she was in first grade at Holy Rosary Elementary School, a call that continued throughout her years there. While she felt drawn to the Sisters, she attended public school because there were no other options available to her. On her way home from school, she would often stop by the Catholic church with her friends and enjoyed spending time there.

She graduated from Johnsonburg High School in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania, in 1955. When she told her family that she wanted to pursue religious life, her parents and siblings were very supportive. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on August 31, 1955, from her home parish, Holy Rosary in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania, and professed her final vows on August 15, 1961. She received a BS in Elementary Education from Villa Maria College in 1969 and also attended several music and pastoral workshops in Wisconsin and Kentucky.

Sr. Angela Marie ministered as a teacher for nearly 30 years in several diocesan schools, including St. Ann and Our Lady’s Christian Schools in Erie. She also served at St. Bernard in Bradford, Pennsylvania. In addition to teaching, she shared her love of music by teaching piano at St. Bernard and Villa Maria Conservatory in Erie, as well as at Holy Rosary in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania, and St. Leo in Ridgway, Pennsylvania. She also taught at Maryvale Preschool.

Throughout her years of ministry, Sr. Angela Marie served in a variety of roles, including Director of Horizon House in Union City, Pennsylvania; Director of Religious Education at Holy Redeemer in Warren, Pennsylvania; Pastoral Minister at Holy Rosary in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania; and private caregiver. She served as a Nurse Aide at St. Joseph Monastery in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, and with Community Nurses. Later, she served as a companion to her cousin, who was living in a personal care home.
