Did you know that after Vatican II, many sisters returned to using their birth names rather than the religious names they were given when they entered the congregation? We’ve included current and former names to make your search easier. Just search by the name you remember.

Sister Mary Millicent Zimmer, SSJ, entered the Sisters of St. Joseph from St. John the Baptist Parish in Erie, PA, on August 30, 1953, and professed her final vows on August 15, 1959
Sister Millicent graduated from the Villa Maria Academy, Erie, PA, in 1952 and continued her education at the Villa Maria College, graduating in 1968 with a bachelor of science degree in Elementary Education. Sister furthered her education at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York, by obtaining a master of arts degree in Theology in 1980.
From 1953 to 1982, Sister Millicent served as an elementary school teacher in parishes in Erie and Johnsonburg. During that time, she also ministered in religious education and office work in Meadville, Bradford, Mercer and Houtzdale, PA. From 1983 to 2008, she ministered in Sunrise, Florida, in pastoral care and religious education. She returned to Erie in 2008 to reside at the Villa Maria Community Living Center.
Sister’s favorite book is the Bible. While it’s difficult for her to choose one favorite verse above all, she especially likes Micah 6:8 “This is what the Lord asks of you, only this; to act justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with your God.”
