season of creation

From September 1 to October 4, 2017, Christians around the world are praying and caring for creation.  Pope Francis has asked all Catholics to pray for our planet during this time and unite with others worldwide who are also praying with one purpose – to become better stewards of our Earth as Pope Francis outlined in his 2015 publication:  “Laudato si’:  On Care For Our Common Home”.

The Justice and Peace for the Integrity of Creation Committee (JPIC) of the sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania hosted a Season of Creation Prayer Service on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. The service was a time to thank God for the wonder of our creation, to meditate on our shared home, share with each other ways in which we were most aware of the beauty of God’s creation in the past week and identify ways in which we could support our planet and all she provides to us.

The prayer service is available to view by clicking here.

The program closed with participants being asked to take a pledge card to pray, live and advocate for Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato si (On Care For Our Common Home) and also sign a letter to PA Representative Mike Kelly asking him for his support for H.R. 2326 – the Climate Solutions Commission Act of 2017.
