The internet has become the new street corner for the marketing, buying and selling of sex and sex trafficking. According to Polaris, some popular commercial websites may be facilitating trafficking through their business practices. The National Human Trafficking Hotline 1 (888) 373-7888, which is operated by Polaris, received approximately 2,000 reports of sex trafficking through online advertisements. The United States Senate, the tech community and anti-trafficking groups are coming together to find a solution. The Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act (SESTA) is a bipartisan bill that targets websites that knowingly facilitate trafficking. SESTA recently passed unanimously through the Senate Commerce Committee and now it needs a full vote. Please call or write your Senator today and urge them to vote for SESTA to be passed in the Senate.
