Sister Ann Louis Grandinetti, SSJ, 78, of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania, died on June 15, 2016. She was in her 59th year of religious life. Sister was born on March 13, 1938 in Bradford, PA the daughter of the late Louis and Joanne Curcio Grandinetti.
She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph from St. Bernard Parish in Bradford on August 28, 1957; professed her final vows on August 15, 1965 and celebrated her 50th Anniversary as a Sister of St. Joseph in 2007. Prior to her death, Sister resided at the Sisters of St. Joseph Community Living Center.
Sister Ann Louis’s ministry included teaching at several schools in the Erie Diocese including Blessed Sacrament, Holy Rosary, St. Joseph, Sacred Heart, St. Paul, Our Lady of Peace, Our Lady’s Christian, Holy Rosary/St. John Eastside Catholic (Teacher and Advancement Director) in Erie; St. Agatha, Meadville, PA and St .Francis in Clearfield, PA. She also ministered as the Religious Education Teacher/ Director in many parishes. At Our Lady’s Christian School, Sister Ann Louis was also the Athletic Director/Student Activities Director and girls’ basketball coach, both elementary and high school as well as Intramural Director for more than 20 years. She was also a counselor at Camp Notre Dame and directed a summer learning program at Our Lady’s Christian School. Sister Ann Louis always felt blessed by the children whom she taught.
She graduated from St. Bernard Junior High and St. Bernard High School in Bradford, PA. In 1968, Sister Ann Louis earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Villa Maria College, Erie, PA. She also attended many education-related workshops and conferences held at various colleges and universities.
Having taught for 53 years, Sister Ann Louis received many awards including one honoring her for 50 years of teaching in the Erie Diocese. She was also nominated for the Diocesan “Teacher of the Year Award” many times. Other awards she received include “My Favorite Teacher” from Mercyhurst Prep, The Golden Apple Award and the Disney Teacher Award.
