praying together

Belonging to a prayer group can help us connect, not only with each other but with God. This is the SSJ mission. Many of our associates, agrégées, and sisters belong to prayer groups. One such group is the Meadville Associate Prayer Group which has met continuously, each month since it began in 1985 at the suggestion of Sister Mary Regis Schrock. Initially, they held their gatherings at the sisters’ convent and later started taking turns hosting the prayer group in their homes. The hosts also prepare the prayer. Most of the meetings also are accompanied by a social hour and sharing of food.
I had the opportunity to join the group for its May meeting which was held at St. Hippolyte Parish social hall in Guys Mills, PA. Associates Chris and Dan Partin led the group in a reflective meditation of the joyful mysteries of the rosary. A delicious pot-luck lunch preceded the presentation.

In June, I joined the group at associates Jerry and Loeta Derby’s home for prayer, delicious tea sandwiches, cookies, and a variety of teas. Afterward, Loeta led the group in prayer. In August, the group will remember deceased Meadville associates at a mass being celebrated for them at St. Brigid Church.

I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to join in prayer with these associates. I am also grateful for all they have done throughout the past 35 years and continue to do to reach out to the dear neighbor in the Meadville area. Recently, a plaque was placed at St. James Haven to recognize the Meadville associates dedicated service to the haven for 15 years. This is what makes the SSJ Mission Possible!
